Tie Bar vs. Guide Bar – Is There a Difference?

In many cases, the terms tie bar and guide bar are used interchangeably. However, there is a subtle distinction based on their role:

  • Tie Bar: Primarily focuses on withstanding clamping forces and maintaining the structural integrity of the clamping unit.

  • Guide Bar: Focuses more on the movement and alignment of the moving platen, ensuring smooth, guided motion.

In most modern injection moulding machines, a single bar often serves both purposes — hence the combined reference to tie bar / guide bar.

Advantages of Our Tie Bars / Guide Bars

    • ✅ Unmatched Strength

Engineered to handle the highest clamping forces without bending or breaking.

      ✅ High Wear Resistance

Induction-hardened surfaces prevent galling, scuffing, or corrosion.

      ✅ Dimensional Stability

Stress-relieved to maintain form even under extreme temperatures and pressures.

      ✅ Customization

Custom lengths, diameters, threads, and end designs available for all models.

      ✅ Easy Integration

Drop-in replacement for most machine models, with minimal downtime.

What is a Tie Bar in Injection Moulding?

A Tie Bar is a cylindrical shaft that connects the machine’s stationary and moving platens. It absorbs and withstands the clamping force during the injection process. The integrity of the tie bar ensures the correct alignment of moulds, enabling the production of defect-free plastic parts.

Key Functions:

    • Provides structural support for the moulding machine.

    • Guides the movement of the moving platen.

    • Withstands high clamping forces (from 50 to 5000+ tonnes).

    • Ensures parallelism and precision during every injection cycle.

Features of Our Injection Moulding Machine Tie Bars

INJECTION MOULDING MACHINE TEI BAR
  • Materials & Manufacturing

Our Tie Bars are manufactured using high-grade alloy steel, such as 42CrMo4 or EN24, which is heat-treated, hardened, and ground for exceptional strength, durability, and dimensional accuracy.

    Manufacturing Features:

    • Induction hardened surface to 58–62 HRC

    • Stress relieved and normalized core

    • Precision-ground outer diameter

    • Surface roughness below Ra 0.4 µm

    • Custom lengths and diameters as per client requirements

Types of Injection Moulding Tie Bars

We provide Tie Bars / Guide Bars for a wide range of moulding machines, including:

    1. Four-Tie-Bar Machines

Standard for most injection moulding setups. We offer replacement and upgraded bars for all major brands.

    2. Toggle-Type Machines

Heavy-duty bars optimized for high-speed toggle mechanisms.

    3. Hydraulic Clamping Machines

Designed to support high-pressure hydraulic systems, ensuring smooth and balanced movement.

Precision Engineering for Reliability
    • Every Tie Bar is crafted under stringent quality control protocols, using CNC turning, induction hardening, cylindrical grinding, and 3D coordinate measuring to ensure:

      • Perfect concentricity

      • Minimal runout

      • Straightness tolerance below 0.02 mm

      • Long service life even under continuous 24×7 operation
